I figure you are going to decode this with CodeX? I did that just now (first time I've done this) and nothing is standing out to me that would make it pause at the end of the first layer for 4 seconds.
Yes. You are right. There's no pause in the codefile.

Also, does the 2nd gen Cube really heat the extruder nozzle at 250 C for PLA?
Yes, but only for the first layer.
Second layer works with 235 C.

May be your Cube is waiting until the 235 C is reached?

Doesn't 235 C still seem way hot for PLA?! And 250 for the first layer! :o I am looking at recommended temps from the two manufacturers and one is 185 C and the other is 190-220 C. Is the 3DS PLA really that different or does the Cube read hot? I mean that's quite a difference.

I found something strange. I decoded a .cube file with CodeX, changed only the extrusion temps to 190 then 200, recoded, and then the blob problem is gone! It seems really odd that the Cubify software doesn't work properly with their own product, but that seems to be the case?

I'm kind of sad that I have to add this extra step of decoding/recoding files to make this thing work properly (and at the right temp) but I guess that's a "feature" of working with 3DS printers.  ;) It wouldn't be bad except that CodeX program is Windows-only and I have a Mac.

I too have this first layer blob happening. 3 prints so far, 2 different objects
Only seems to occur if you print without rafts. So far I have only printed one object with a raft.
Results good, but the raft was almost impossible to remove, certainly not as easy as those created with Makerbot for my CTC printer.
Printing without rafts with PLA is OK on the Gen 2 Cube, unheated platform using standard glue. :-\

I have this with my Cube too, but not with print files from Cube software. I noticed this first after i first used the option to set different temps for first and other layers in Kisslicer 1.4, the head just stopped for full minute or so. However, filament was not being extruded, so there was no blob (apart from the slow oozing). With Kisslicer 1.5b, the pause is way shorter, only few seconds. So it's just the system waiting for the target temp for the nozzle, apparently. AFAIK, Cuber firmware functionality.
